Ingenico SA will make wireless mobile-payment and countertop chip-and-PIN terminals available to taxicabs throughout the United Kingdom after striking a deal with SilverPay Services Ltd., the French terminal maker announced March 12.
London-based SilverPay specializes in payment services to taxi drivers and private-hire driving services, generally targeting drivers who process less than £800 (US $1,252 or 954 euros) in monthly card payments.
As part of the partnership and as contracts with taxi fleets are signed, Ingenico will supply SilverPay with its mobile-payment EFT930G wireless and iCT220 countertop chip-and-PIN payment terminals for use in the taxi fleets SilverPay services throughout the UK, Ingenico noted in a press release.
Ingenico reported an initial contract has been secured to supply a midsize taxi fleet in Gateshead, with “additional opportunities in the pipeline.”
Ingenico projects the UK taxi and private-hire market at more than 250,000 vehicles in operation.
Ingenico represents the perfect partner for SilverPay because of the increasing demand from the taxi and private sector to incorporate the newest payment technology with a focus on speed, security and flexibility, Ken Hansen, SilverPay managing director, stated in the release.
The EFT930G terminal accepts any mobile-payment type, including contactless payments, Ingenico states on its website.
