United Bank Card Inc., a Hampton, N.J.-based independent sales organization, says merchants ordered 125 electronic cash registers during the first week they became available as part of the ISO's free cash register program. The cash registers, which debuted July 31, include an integrated point-of-sale system. Merchants do not pay for the equipment but must get a merchant account with the ISO on a three-year contract. United Bank Card maintains ownership of the cash register, which enables the ISO to control the software and security updates more easily, a spokesperson tells CardLine. Merchants also can request new cash registers at no charge at any time under their contracts, the spokesperson says. The cash-register package has restaurant and retail-store versions. Both include a customer-facing PIN pad. United Bank Card handles the deployment, setup and support for the systems.
