JCB Co. Ltd., which runs the largest card network in Japan, said Monday it has agreed to issue a cobranded credit card for Walt Disney Co. (Japan) Ltd.

Cardholders will have access to Disney Web content as well as exclusive events such as live Disney performances.

The company was granted a Disney promotion license in 1989 and features Disney content in its OkiDoki Point Program, which rewards customers with points exchangeable for merchandise and Tokyo Disney Resort Passports. JCB also has park sponsor agreements with Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, where it presents attractions and conducts promotions.

Walt Disney Japan and JCB plan to accept applications from selected customers beginning in August and from the general public beginning Nov. 18.

No U.S. financial institution has agreed to issue a JCB card — which is issued in 18 countries outside Japan — although Discover Financial Services LLC made a deal last year that lets JCB cardholders shop at U.S. merchants that accept Discover and vice versa.
