Malaysia-based Eoncap Islamic Bank this week plans to begin issuing MasterCard-branded contactless debit cards in Malaysia, a MasterCard Worldwide spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The cards carry the card company's contactless PayPass application. They also adhere to Islamic standards, meaning customers cannot use the cards for such activities as gambling or buying alcohol. The official launch of the card is scheduled for Thursday, the spokesperson says, declining to give further details. The Islamic bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of EON Bank.
