DataMatrix Promotions, a third-party marketer, has begun offering Visa-branded prepaid cards from JPMorgan Chase & Co. to businesses that want to give customers rebates, the White Plains, N.Y.-based company announced today. DataMatrix, a subsidiary of Giltedge InfoTech Services Pvt. Ltd., works with manufacturers and retailers, which have asked for a debit card option to replace rebate checks, Bob Morlock, DataMatrix senior vice president, tells CardLine. Customers tend to spend funds on cards and deposit funds on checks, Morlock says. They also can use the cards to get cash from ATMs, he says. Companies can custom-design the cards, Morlock says. DataMatrix chose Chase because it has worked with the issuer before and because Chase has a broad reach and good relationship with Visa, he says. "Our customers are manufactures, and they like the branded Visa card," Morlock says. "They see value in creating a mechanism to get consumers back into the retailers." Customers who use the cards at Chase and AllPointe ATMs do not pay a surcharge, says John T. Murray, Chase vice president of treasury services media relations.
