Retail sales in China will total more than 5.5 trillion yuan (US$801.4 billion or 523 billion euros) this year, up 17% from 4.7 trillion yuan in 2007, according to a study from MasterCard Worldwide. China will experience higher growth in retail sales than 11 other Asia-Pacific markets, including Japan, Australia, Singapore and Thailand, the card company says in a statement. Hong Kong, for instance, this year will experience retail-sales growth of 12.7%, while Japan's retail-sales growth rate will be 1%, MasterCard predicts
