MasterCard has deployed Host Card Emulation-based mobile wallets in more than 15 countries.
HCE technology enables wireless payments from a mobile phone without requiring access to the handset's secure element. According to MasterCard, hundreds of licensees are utilizing HCE in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
MasterCard also recently released a Mobile Payment Software Development Kit to fast-track mobile application development on Android devices. The SDK provides a collection of software libraries and tools to allow developers to create and test applications that are compliant with MasterCard specifications.
"Our vision for digital payments is to create great experiences for consumers across all channels and all devices, and HCE and cloud-based software provide another path forward for MasterCard and our partners to deliver on that vision," James Anderson, group head of shared platform services at MasterCard, said in a Feb. 24 press release.
