MasterCard continued to expand its partnerships with European telcos, announcing an exclusive, five-year agreement with Everything Everywhere Ltd. to develop mobile and digital payment applications.
Everything Everywhere, a T-Mobile parent known as Orange in the UK, serves an estimated 27 million customers in the UK. Last month, MasterCard completed a similar partnership with Deutsche Telekom AG in Germany.
The new partnership with Everything Everywhere will allow MasterCard to support consumer and merchant adoption of secure mobile payments by combining technology and financial assets to create new services, the card brand stated in its announcement.
MasterCard and Everything Everywhere plan to first launch a co-branded prepaid option for mobile devices that allows customers to make payments using Near Field Communications technology at more than 100,000 UK retailers, MasterCard said.
"We're delighted to be working with Everything Everywhere, the UK's leading mobile operator," Marion King, president of MasterCard UK and Ireland, stated in a press release dated Aug. 28.
