MasterCard has expanded its digital wallet reach in Europe through separate deals in France and Russia and by granting a license to Smartlink SA to white-label MasterPass.

Smartlink SA operates a wallet platform that allows European financial institutions and merchants to build their own applications.

Smartlink will introduce MasterPass to MasterCard issuers primarily in Switzerland and France as an option for e-commerce merchants and shoppers.

“MasterPass helps merchants increase sales by giving consumers a fast, simple and secure checkout experience” Eric La Marca, managing director of Smartlink SA, stated in a press release. “Our mobile wallet solution extends our merchants’ business to their consumer’s mobile phones, brings added value services and creates new revenue streams."

MasterCard also signed an agreement to join the Paylib e-wallet service in France in 2015 and announced that MasterPass is now available in Russia through the Life Koshelek payment system. More than 30,000 online merchants in Russia, through Payture, Yandex.Money, Wallet One and PayOnline, have been integrated into the MasterPass platform.

With these additions, MasterPass will be available in 16 countries.
