The Members Group has begun offering Visa-branded payroll cards for credit unions to sell to their business customers, the company announced yesterday. The Des Moines, Iowa-based Members Group began testing the payroll card in July 2007, the company said. The undisclosed credit union that took part in the test issued more than 40,000 payroll cards. The Members Group wants credit unions to offer its cards to employers as an alternative to payroll checks, Jeff Falk, Members Group director of product development, tells CardLine. The card marketer provides marketing kits credit unions may use to sell the cards to their business customers, and it offers kits employers may use to promote the cards to their employees, Falk says. Credit unions can earn card revenue through the float earned on deposits and from interchange and cardholder fees, he adds. The Members Group earns revenue from a markup on transaction fees charged by sharing interchange with the credit union or through a flat fee per card, depending on the size of the program, Falk says.
