Mitek Systems has received another patent for its mobile bill-pay imaging technology.
Mitek provides financial institutions with the technology that allows customers to pay a bill or deposit a check using a smartphone or tablet's camera.
The San Diego-based company says the U.S. patent office has issued Mitek its second patent related to the technology for bill payment.
After a consumer uses Mitek's Mobile Photo Bill Pay software to take a picture of a bill, the technology reads the paper bill and auto-populates the fields required to make a payment, the company states in a Nov. 6 press release.
U.S. Bank, BBVAC Compass, First Financial, City Bank of Texas, Americana Bank, and Three Rivers Federal Credit Union offer the mobile bill pay service, Mitek says.
In addition to Mitek's direct sales, mobile banking solutions provider Malauzi Software and bill payment service provider Allied Payments resell the mobile photo bill pay software, Mitek says.
For consumers, Mitek's bill pay software "changes the mundane task of paying bills into a fast, simple and fun process," James DeBello, president and CEO of Mitek, states in the release. "Financial institutions that have deployed Mobile Photo Bill Pay are experiencing a first-mover advantage."
Mobile Photo Bill Pay expands upon Mitek's Mobile Deposit technology, currently licensed by more than 1,000 financial institutions and all of the top 10 retail banks in the U.S., Mitek says.
