United Kingdom-based Monilink Ltd., a mobile-banking joint venture set up by Monitise Group and VocaLink, has signed a contract with an unnamed UK retail bank to offer mobile-banking and payment services to its customers, according to a Monilink statement released Monday. The service enables customers to check account balances, request miniature bank statements and top-up prepaid mobile phones using a bank account, the statement says. Monilink says the service is passcode-protected, and information displayed on the phone automatically is deleted. No personal details are stored in the handset, the statement says. Six banks already offer the service, including HSBC and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Officials from Monitise and VocaLink did not respond to requests for comment.
