Payments processor mopay is now offering an HTML5 in-app billing solution for online merchants doing business in India.
HTML5, the latest version of the HTML markup language used for Internet content, is supported by 75% of Indian carriers, mopay says in a May 19 press release. Such carriers, including Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance, are investing millions of dollars to upgrade their mobile Internet infrastructure, mopay says. Without HTML5, merchants rely on text messages to handle mobile bill payments, the company says.
"India's mobile phone market is the world's second-largest after China in numbers of customers. The demand for digital content is enormous," says Ingo Lippert, CEO of mopay, in the release.
Mopay operates in more than 80 countries, reaching more than 4.3 billion consumers. It is one of a growing list of companies rushing to serve the Indian market, including MasterCard, Hyperwallet and BlueSnap.
