NetSpend Corp., an Austin, Texas-based prepaid card provider, is working with California Check Cashing Stores LLC to offer one-hour money-management classes to high school students in northern California. Based in Oakland, Calif., California Check Cashing has 97 stores and offers check-cashing and bill-payment services, payday loans, funds transfers and prepaid cards from NetSpend to consumers. The classes cover saving, using credit cards and prepaid debit cards, and creating a budget, the company says. California Check Cashing developed the course, Meghan Butler, a NetSpend spokesperson, tells CardLine. Meanwhile, NetSpend last week hired three new executives. The company named Frank J. Cotroneo, who was founder and principal of Core Business Consulting LLC, as chief operating officer. NetSpend also named Anh Vazquez as executive vice president for its online business. Vazquez previously was senior vice president and at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. NetSpend's third hire was Tom Cregan, who becomes executive vice president and general manager for NetSpend's check-cashing, payday-loan, and general retail clients. Cregan previously was president of PaySpot Inc., a prepaid card processor based in Leawood, Kan., and a subsidiary of Euronet Worldwide Inc.
