Nearly 90% of consumers who regularly use the Internet in six Asia-Pacific countries have shopped online within the past 12 months, suggest survey data released Thursday by Visa Inc. The card network based its findings on online surveys involving 2,380 consumers who use the Internet at least once a week. France-based market-research firm Ipsos conducted the surveys between January and March. Survey participants, whose ages ranged from 18 to 49, were from China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia and India. South Korean consumers reported the most online shopping activity, with 97% of respondents reporting they had conducted an online purchase within the previous 12 months. Ninety-four percent of Chinese respondents reported doing online purchases, up from 89% who did in a similar survey for the first quarter of 2009, Visa says in a statement. In India, 76% of respondents reported online purchases, up from 71%, Visa says.
