PayAnywhere has added more stores to the list of retailers that sell its mobile acceptance technology.

Meijer’s, Fred Meyer’s, Hastings Entertainment, Brandsmart and MicroCenter will join Walmart, The Home Depot, OfficeMax and Pep Boys in offering PayAnywhere’s mobile card processing solution. Once a merchant activates the credit card reader and starts processing transactions, PayAnywhere will include a $10.00 rebate as reimbursement for the manufacturers’ suggested retail price of $9.99.

PayAnywhere readers are compatible with iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android tablets and smartphones, and Blackberry devices. The company charges 2.69% per swiped transaction, and also provides live customer support and a portal that allows merchants to create transaction reports, view receipts and set up alerts. Square, by comparison, charges $275 per month, or 2.75% per swipe, according to its website. PayAnywhere targets contractors such as plumbers and electricians, who work remotely, and can accept payments from customers while in the field.

“Many business owners and professional contractors prefer to ‘shop locally’ when they can to support their retailers. The ability to purchase the PayAnywhere reader from these retailers is important to them,” said Scott Addyman, vice president of sales, PayAnywhere, in a release.

PayAnywhere is operating in a fiercely competitive market for mobile acceptance. In addition to Square, WePay offers mobile invoicing for contractors, who work when the customer isn’t present—such as a dog walker or cleaning person. PayPal Here is also active.
