The PCI Security Standards Council, which oversees data-security standards for the payments industry, is responding to inquiries from payments companies for more staff training by launching an internal security assessor certification program, a council spokesperson tells PaymentsSource.
Internal security assessors, who evaluate the security of payments systems and work for merchants, acquiring banks and processors, are eligible to participate in the three-day certification course. The cost of the course is $1,495 for council member organizations and $2,495 for nonmembers.
The new training program will help payment companies develop in-house compliance staff, the Wakefield, Mass-based council says. The first session will be held May 19 to 21 in Sydney, Australia. The council plans to note subsequent session locations on its website.
The council designed the program to help participants “better understand PCI requirements and validate and maintain ongoing compliance with PCI standards,” the spokesperson says. The program also helps the council ensure that assessors, whether working for a third-party or within a payments company, consistently apply PCI measures, she says.
The goal is to further “a stronger ongoing security process to better protect cardholder data,” the council says.
