Philippines-based e-commerce payment specialist Mozcom Inc. in August announced a partnership with Dragonpay Corp. enabling consumers who lack credit cards to pay for online purchases at its walk-in payment centers.
The partnership expands Mozcom’s PayEasy Online Payment System to a broader base of users in the Philippines, where credit card penetration remains relatively low, the companies said.
Dragonpay, also based in the Philippines, provides a network of payment-acceptance outlets throughout the country at banks, convenience stores, remittance centers and pawnshops.
Using Dragonpay’s service with Mozcom’s PayEasy, buyers can initiate a purchase online, then complete the transaction by paying in person at one of Dragonpay’s brick-and-mortar outlets, a Dragonpay spokesperson tells PaymentsSource.
While credit cards are increasing in popularity in the Philippines, paying over the counter at banks remains the preferred choice for many local consumers, the spokesperson adds.
Dragonpay enables acceptance of diverse types of payments including online payments from banks including Unionbank Ltd, Chinabank Ltd, RCBC Ltd and EastWest Bank Ltd; and offline bank payment through Banco de Oro Ltd. Dragonpay expects to have connections with 4,000 Philippines-based bank branches by early next year.
Mozcom’s PayEasy online payment system currently supports all major credit cards in the Philippines including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB.
It also supports payments from PayPal, Globe G-Cash, Smart Money, Western Union, over-the-counter bank deposits, and direct online account debit with major banks in Asia, North America, Oceania, Europe, and the Philippines.
