Pizza Patron is integrating Revel Systems' mobile point of sale system into its more than 100 restaurant locations, which had been using several different vendors' products to accept payments.
"Pizza Patron has multiple POS systems running in multiple markets, making it very difficult and time-consuming to analyze what's happening in the business," says Andrew Gamm, brand director of Pizza Patron.
Revel Systems provides a cloud-based iPad point of sale system. Over the past several years, cloud-based systems have grown in popularity for allowing merchants to manage updates on one terminal and send the updates systemwide. Cloud-based point of sale systems also allow mobile access to reports from all connected stores.
"We wanted a system that gave us real-time, cloud-based access to sales and labor data," says Gamm. "In addition to tracking food and labor up to the minute, the iPad-based system gives us the potential to do other things like stream music into the stores or communicate directly with the team members remotely."
Revel Systems is currently integrated in 20 of Pizza Patron's locations, and the companies will be working on rolling the system out to the rest of the stores in the next two years, says Chris Ciabarra, chief technology officer at Revel Systems.
Pizza Patron stores use point of sale systems from Diamond Touch, NCC cash registers and PAR Technology, among others.
Revel's mobile point of sale system has features the chain's current systems don't all provide, says Gamm. These include the ability to quickly add products to its menu and use multiple options at one time, he says. And Revel plans on adding analytics features that will allow Pizza Patron to view data by state, market, ownership group and other categories to help track specific customer behavior, he says.
Because the fragmented technology in place at most of its locations today, Pizza Patron hasn't implemented a rewards or loyalty program. "We look forward to taking advantage of Revel's customer rewards and gift card programs," Gamm says.
Offers, rewards and loyalty have become increasingly hot topics for the payments industry. Merchants say that linking loyalty to payment cards helps them target their best customers with specialized offers. Many experts in the payments space say that combining loyalty into a mobile payment app will spur consumers to adopt mobile wallets. And consumers are also demanding flexibility within their card rewards programs.
The Texas-based pizza franchise received wide publicity in 2007 for implementing a "Pizza for Pesos" program, which allowed customers to pay for their order with Mexican pesos.
Revel System's iPad point of sale allows merchants to accept multiple forms of currency, which was an advantage for Pizza Patron's unique promotions, says Ciabarra.
Revel Systems also announced today that the company would be integrating Bitcoin acceptance into its system.
About 30 of Revel's clients have asked for the Bitcoin integration, Ciabarra says. Revel is integrated with Coinbase, a Bitcoin exchange working with Silicon Valley Bank, he says.
