The payment processor Planet Payment has named Carl Williams as its president.

Williams has worked in financial services for 30 years, most recently as managing director of Pay Anywhere from May 2012 to July 2013. His career also includes stints as president of worldwide payment processing for Global Payments and divisional president of merchant services for National Processing Co. He has also been a director at Planet Payment since August 20, 2013.

"Carl brings with him the hands-on experience of a long and successful career in financial services and payments and a complementary skill set that I believe will help us execute our growth plans and position our company for strategic opportunities," says Philip Beck, chairman and CEO of  Planet Payment, in a Nov. 12 press release.

Planet Payment on Nov. 12 also reported third-quarter earnings, including net revenue of $10.5 million compared to $9.9 million in the third quarter of 2012.

The company has recently expanded its Pay in Your Currency product, which enables international travelers to pay in their home currency at the point of sale, through a partnership with TSYS. Planet Payment also partnered with Visa earlier this year to extend its service in developing economies.

"We are seeing positive secular trends including the shift from cash to electronic payments—particularly in emerging markets which remain a strategic focus of the company," says Beck in a release announcing the company's earnings.
