Travelers visiting Thailand may take advantage of a new prepaid Visa card providing visitors with discounts at local tourist and shopping locations, the Tourism Authority of Thailand announced Apr. 2.
The “Miracle Thailand” card, launched in association with Krung Thai Bank Ltd., exclusively targets foreign tourists, a spokesperson for the agency tells PaymentsSource.
“The aim is to offer a more convenient way of spending among visitors,” he says, adding that many Thai visitors wary of credit card fraud are seeking alternate safe payment tools, the spokesperson says.
Cardholders may also qualify for discounts of 5%-90% on purchases at tourist attractions such as The Mall, Emporium, Siam Paragon, Paradise Park, MBK Center, King Power Duty Free, and Siam Park.
Krung Thai Bank is selling the card at all of its branches and its currency exchange booths within the country, as well as at the Association of Thai Travel Agents' booth at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport, the spokesperson says.
The card is available for 100 baht (US$3.2 or 2.4 euros), and includes 7-day personal accident insurance for up to 10,000 baht for outpatient treatment, up to 500,000 baht for inpatient treatment, and life insurance of 1 million baht.
“The cardholder can top up the card to a maximum value of 30,000 baht at any Krung Thai Bank branch and its currency exchange booths,” the spokesperson says.
Cardholders may also withdraw cash at Visa-enabled ATMs and use the card at POS terminals across Thailand.
