TSYS' ProPay has launched a service to handle rent payments via mobile devices for the property management industry.
Residents can use smartphones to pay rent, communicate with property managers and submit maintenance requests. Property managers can also use mobile card readers to collect application fees and security deposits by using the ProPay Jak card reader.
ProPay, a TSYS subsidiary that provides merchant services, is using Aptexx, a company that uses a software as a service model to adapt content to mobile devices, using technology such as responsive design and HTML5.
The majority of the property management industry is using software that was built over a decade ago for PCs and laptops; software that simply doesnt work well on smartphones. Weve solved that problem, says William Evick, Aptexxs chief executive officer, in an Aug. 28 press release.
Apartment rentals are still largely paid via check, though several companies offer digital options. RentPaidOnline and Spindle offer mobile rent payments, and RealPage and Plastiq offer automated rental payments.
