Roam Data Inc. has updated its mobile app to allow merchants to operate a complete point of sale system from smartphones or tablets.
RoamPay X4 simplifies integration with the merchant's existing back-end payment systems and functions as a turnkey product for merchants, retailers, acquirers, resellers and banks, Boston-based Roam announced April 23.
"Mobile point of sale is a whole lot more than plugging a dongle into a mobile phone and enabling card acceptance," says Ken Paull, chief executive officer of Roam, in a press release.
"It's become a channel for merchants and merchant-facing organizations to reinvent the point of sale experience and better engage with their customers," Paull adds.
Since becoming CEO in late 2012, Paull has noted that Roam, a company financed through Ingenico SA, has to maintain an innovation pace that keeps the company at the forefront of mobile POS.
RoamPay X4 is designed to help businesses of all sizes extend a traditional point of sale infrastructure to Android and iOS-based smartphones and tablets, the company states.
The RoamPay application interface enables developers to build customized mobile point of sale apps.
"While this market is evolving at a very rapid pace, we've listened closely to our customers to understand their needs and to identify where the market is headed," Bill Pittman, senior vice president of product management at Roam, states in the release.
Roam will offer RoamPay X4 as a white-label product to businesses seeking a custom-branded mobile point of sale.
The new application provides previous purchase recognition and personal receipts, Roam says. It also is able to capture a customer's e-mail address for marketing purposes.
The app uses end-to-end data encryption and PIN-based authentication.
