Spending by consumers with MasterCard-branded cards increased nearly 27% during this year's Great Singapore sale, an annual event merchants and tourism officials support. The event ran from 23 May to 21 June. Consumers spent nearly US$364.6 million (231.2 million euros) with their MasterCard cards this year, up from US$287 million last year, the card company says in a statement. Spending by Singapore consumers increased nearly 33%, to US$238 million from US$179.2 million. Spending by foreign consumers with MasterCard-branded cards increased 17%, to US$126.5 million this year from US$107.8 million last year, the card company says. Spending by Australians increased 75%, to US$16.3 million from US$9.3 million. Spending by consumers from the United States, though, decreased 6%, to US$14.8 million from US$15.8 million last year, the card company says.
