Youth oriented payments company SpendSmart has retained the Maxim Group to help it spot acquisition targets.

"We are excited to have such a successful and experienced investment banking firm like Maxim Group help guide the company into its next phase," said Bill Hernandez, President of SpendSmart Payments Co., in a Sept. 16 press release.

Formerly known as BillMyParents, the company rebranded this year to accentuate its focus on enabling parents to monitor their children's spending. It was the latest in a series of rebrandings for the company over the past four years.

SpendSmart is popularly known for signing Justin Bieber to promote its prepaid cards. The SpendSmart prepaid card charges consumers $3.95, or almost a dollar more than the fee Suze Orman charges for "The Approved Card," though SpendSmart contends the company offers features to offset the cost such as educational services and transaction text alerts.
