U.K.-based terminal maker Spire Payments has purchased the electronic funds transfer division of STS, a company that provides point of sale payment devices to more than 40 customers across the Middle East.
With this acquisition, Spire will launch a new office based in Dubai and offer clients in the Middle East services such as software development, technical support and repairs to augment its sales and marketing activities. The Spire Payments MEA center will also include a point of sale application development division and a terminal repair facility in Jordan.
"This acquisition is yet another decisive step in our drive to deliver our global payment strategy and to accelerate our revenue growth," said Kazem Aminaee, chief executive officer of Spire Payments, in a Nov. 20 news release. "We see MEA as one of the most promising regions for growth and innovation."
Spire made its point of sale terminals available to Australian merchants last November through a partnership with independent sales organization Keycorp Services Ltd. Earlier this year, Spire acquired the payment application developer Altius Plus, of Romania, to create payments and loyalty products. Spire also reached a deal to supply Indian Overseas Bank with more than 7,500 mobile point of sale devices in the Chennai region of India.
