Square has purchased BookFresh, a company that sells booking and appointment management technology to merchants.
BookFresh's services handle bookings, client history, an address book, "book now" Web widgets, client email and text reminders, social media integration and payments acceptance. It charges merchants $19.95 per month after a free 30-day introduction.
The companies did not disclose the terms of the transaction, but did say the two companies' products will operate independently for the time being.
The addition of BookFresh should enhance Square's ability to pair small business payments with management tools. Square has been upgrading its Register app to add more business management features. Square is also testing a separate order-ahead app called Square Pickup.
"Sellers use Square for far more than accepting payments," says Gokul Rajaram, product engineering lead for Square, in a Feb. 26 blog post. "They manage their point of sale with Square Register, run loyalty programs and promotions for customers, and access important analytics that help them make better business decisions."
