St. George Bank Ltd. and Qantas Airways Ltd. on April 1 announced the launch of “Amplify,” a cobranded rewards credit card. The Visa-branded product will be available to customers later this month, according to the Sydney-based bank.

By linking the credit card to the Amplify Qantas rewards program, customers will earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points on eligible purchases at the rate of one point per AU$2 spent. The bank automatically will transfer these points to the customer’s Qantas Frequent Flyer account each month, the bank noted in a statement. Consumers then may redeem the points toward gift cards, home appliances, movie tickets, and other products and services.

The card will come with an annual fee of AU$79 (US$74 or 54 euros), and there will be no limit to the number of points customers can earn on eligible purchases

Qantas Frequent Flyer is Australia’s leading loyalty program with 6.9 million member accounts and a wide range of partners, according to Simon Hickey, Qantas Frequent Flyer CEO. Qantas is Australia’s largest airline and is the world’s second oldest airline.

As part of a promotion to drive consumer interest in the card, the bank will offer cardholders one Qantas Frequent Flyer point per AU$1 on eligible purchases for a limited time.

St. George Bank is a subsidiary of Westpac Banking Corp., trading mostly in the Australian state of New South Wales.
