Residents of Tongxar Village in Eastern Tibet have become the first recipients of gold proprietary credit cards from the Agriculture Bank of China, reports the local news Web site ChinaTibet Online. According to the report, the state-owned commercial bank has extended credit worth 1.5 million yuan (US$220,000 or 146,000 euros) to the village for the initiative. Under the scheme, each of the 88 households in the village have received a credit card with a 30,000 yuan credit limit. The bank issued the credit cards to help support the development of agriculture and agri-tourism in the area, according to the report. Bank officials were unavailable to comment by CardLine Global's deadline.
