An increase in the number of cardholder data breaches is spurring Trustwave, a Chicago-based payment-security company, to add more investigators, the company announced today. Trustwave did not disclose how many were it hired for its SpiderLabs operation, which is responsible for incident response and forensics and for testing payment software and security systems. "There are more breaches being reported," a Trustwave spokesperson tells CardLine-sister publication ISO&Agent Weekly. "We have seen an increase in demand for specialty security services." Part of the explanation for the increase is the passage of consumer-notification laws in more than 40 states and increased diligence by the card brands and their issuing banks, Trustwave says. "As a result, a breach is typically discovered closer to the time it originates," the spokesperson says. "The investigation is important because it can uncover the latest techniques utilized by hackers, which in turn, leads to more-effective security through the transaction supply chain." Trustwave says its SpiderLabs service is available globally.
