The National Cards Group and the Association of Banks in Malaysia have joined in launching an educational campaign informing consumers about the potential consequences of credit card debt.

The campaign started on Oct. 28 and will continue through the end of the year, according to an official at the cards group. It’s goal is to educate credit cardholders using six points of advise: educate yourself, exercise caution, enhance your lifestyle, enjoy benefits, eliminate debt and engage your card issuer, the official tells PaymentsSource.

“The campaign is aimed at Malaysia’s 3.5 million credit cardholders, who we want to educate on responsible and effective use of cards, and the benefits they can derive from them,” he says. “To do so, the group will run six advertorials beginning today [Nov. 1] in six national daily newspapers over a period of six weeks.”

In addition, the 20 members of the group plan to run the same advertorials on their websites and distribute leaflets at ground events, the official says.
