Ukraine-based Nadra Bank on Tuesday said it would buy an undisclosed number of ATMs and transaction terminals from Germany-based Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH, the world's second-largest ATM manufacturer. Nadra operates 700 branches and 1,000 ATMs, "more than 90% of which are from Wincor Nixdorf," the companies say in a statement. The bank will buy cash-dispensing ATMs, deposit-taking machines, and more than 200 transaction terminals that enable customers to transfer funds and pay bills, the companies say. The Ukraine represents the second-largest market in Central and Eastern Europe behind Russia for deployment of ATMs and cash dispensers, says Chris Herbert, an analyst with Retail Banking Research, a strategic consulting firm based in the United Kingdom. In 2007, Ukraine was the third-fastest growing market in Central and Eastern Europe. At the end of last year, financial institutions had deployed some 20,931 ATMs and cash dispensers in the Ukraine, a 52% increase from 13,744 a year earlier, Herbert tells CardLine Global sister publication ATM&Debit News.
