Most U.S. consumers, 77%, believe it is important to have real-time information regarding their bank and credit card accounts, and 34% want and are ready for mobile-banking services, suggest the results of a Monitise Americas LLC survey. Monitise Americas provides mobile-banking and mobile-payment services. Toronto-based MaCorr Inc. conducted the survey of 1,367 U.S. adults in late 2008 for the Providence, R.I.-based company. More than 90% of the respondents who stated they want mobile-banking services said they would like to check account balances, view transaction activity and receive fraud alerts. Ninety-three percent of respondents stated they would use the mobile-banking service at least once a week, according to Monitise Americas. Most survey respondents, 90%, stated they want to use mobile devices to transfer funds between financial accounts, and 80% want to use mobile devices to pay bills and receive notification when they are due. A majority of respondents, 84%, also were interested in using mobile devices to pay for purchases at the point of sale, according to Monitise Americas (CardLine, 12/16/08).
