Verifone will provide its full-scale payments-as-a-service platform to the Shufersal supermarket chain in Israel, allowing the stores to offer an omnichannel payment experience to customers.
San Jose, Calif.-based Verifone says Shufersal is the largest supermarket chain in Israel and the first in the country to integrate Verifone's commerce-enabled software for EMV card acceptance, access to third-party apps in the Merchant Marketplace, payment gateway services and an omnichannel view of consumer transactions both online and in-store.
“To meet the demands of the increasingly digital consumer who expects a personalized and seamless e-commerce and in-store experience, we plan to interact with shoppers with multimedia content such as interactive surveys, loyalty programs, and targeted marketing videos and graphics,” Zvika Fishaimer, vice president of systems information and human resources at Shufersal, said in an Aug. 22 press release.
Working with Verifone puts Shufersal "a step ahead of our competition with the advanced technologies and services we need to complement the quality and affordability our customers expect when they shop with us,” Fishaimer added.
Shufersal will use the Verifone MX 925 point of sale multilane device to have its 3,500 attended and self-checkout lanes ready for EMV chip cards and the encryption and tokenization services to accept mobile wallets and other payment types.
“Technology is moving quickly in Israel and retail is evolving as merchants look for solutions that can both strengthen their business and enhance interactions with the consumer,” Dan Soffer, vice president of services for Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and also general manager of Verifone Israel, said in the release.
The Verifone services include tools for media and estate management, as well as device monitoring.
The terminal and technology provider has been focusing on advancements at the point of sale, partnering with FIS to enable consumers to redeem loyalty points at the terminal with merchants' branded payment cards.
