The San Jose-based payment terminal maker Verifone launched a new mobile operating system and is separately working with Samsung on new mobile point of sale projects.
The mobile OS is meant to allow for easier, less costly software upgrades and supports Android, iOS, and Windows. It also accepts EMV, Near Field Communication, Apple Pay, and magnetic stripe payments and can be optionally fitted with a bar code scanner.
The separate Samsung technology will be geared towards Android smartphones. As part of the development deal, Verifone will develop a payment system using Samsung's Galaxy tablet, compatible with EMV-chip cards, NFC, Bluetooth beacons, and magnetic stripe cards.
The companies did not provide a timeline for when they anticipated their solutions might be available.
