Following its promise to make mobile point of sale products a key revenue-driver for the company, Verifone Payment Systems released a new mobile card reader for independent and micro merchants.
The Verifone e265 will operate with any smartphone or tablet and accept EMV chip cards, Near Field Communication contactless cards and mobile wallets as well as magnetic-stripe transactions, the company stated in a Dec. 16 press release.
During the company's fourth-quarter earnings report on Dec. 14, Verifone CEO Paul Galant pointed to the ongoing EMV migration, the acceleration of cash to electronic payments and the role of payments in mobile commerce as the major trends for Verifone expects will improve revenue.
"Part of that is providing the gateways and solutions," Galant said on the earnings call. "We will begin shipping an mPOS solution as part of our new mobile products."
The hardware maker plans to have the Verifone e265 available in early 2016.
Merchants will have the ability to connect their online and offline sales channels by using Verifone e265 on a smart tablet. That integration allows merchants access to e-commerce apps for delivering digital coupons, loyalty and rewards during the check-out process.
Merchants will also have the option to use business applications for inventory control and tracking client data.
“Imagine those merchants in hard-to-reach places where simply adding the power of accepting card payments can really change their game,” Glen Robson, executive vice president and global head of terminal solutions for Verifone, stated in the company's Dec. 16 press release. “On the other side of the spectrum, Verifone e265 is an ideal mPOS solution for merchants that want to offer value-added services to increase traffic and revenue with a multi-channel approach to commerce right at their fingertips.”
Sales partners serving Southern Europe or Latin American markets are experiencing high merchant demand for cost-effective mPOS solutions, Robson added.
"This latest addition to Verifone's portfolio of solutions provides them with an affordable offering for merchants of all sizes that demand flexibility, reliability and longevity from their technology investments," Robson said.
