Visa has hired Ramon Martin, who was previously with American Express, for the newly created job of global head of merchant sales and solutions. Visa also announced that Elizabeth Buse, who heads its global solutions group, plans to retire March 31 after 16 years at the company.
The global solutions group was created in August 2013 and charged with managing technology for digital channels, processing services, information products and merchant sales and services. Prior to her global role, Buse was Visa's president for Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa. Buse has been previously recognized by American Banker Magazine's Most Powerful Women in Finance.
In the new merchant sales role, Martin will be charged with helping Visa provide customized products and services for merchants worldwide, according to a March 13 press release. He will also work to expand Visa's merchant and acquiring partnerships, reporting directly to Visa President Ryan McInerney.
Martin joins Visa after 16 years at American Express, where he was most recently president of merchant services in the Americas. Before joining Amex, he was a commercial director at the shipping company DHL International in Spain and a consultant at management consulting firm Alexander Proudfoot in both Spain and the United States.
