Visa has partnered with international e-commerce company Borderfree to promote shopping at U.S. merchants by customers in the Middle East.
Borderfree and Visa had a similar partnership in 2013 focused on Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand. "The growth of e-commerce has enabled a truly global marketplace and shoppers all over the world expect to be able to buy from the retailers they prefer, wherever they are based," says Michael DeSimone, CEO of Borderfree, in a July 14 press release.
Borderfree's platform allows U.S. retailers to sell goods in more than 100 countries. Under the partnership, Borderfree will offer promotions from retailers in the United States to customers in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Jordan.
Visa has partnered with almost 40 banks in the region to offer cardholders duty-free and free international express shipping of goods purchased in excess of US $100 through August 20, 2014, according to the release.
