WEX doubles fleet mobile app’s reach with Shell stations
Fuel card operator WEX is expanding its mobile payments app for fleet drivers to U.S. Shell stations, more than doubling the app’s reach following last year's launch at ExxonMobil stations.
DriverDash, an app enabling drivers of fleet vehicles to authorize fuel transactions from inside their vehicles, is supported at 13,000 Shell stations, bringing total participating U.S. gas stations to 25,000, WEX said in a Tuesday press release.
“The app doesn’t replace WEX’s physical cards, but it creates a more seamless and secure payment option,” said Rodrigo Meirelles, WEX’s vice president of new products and innovation, in a recent interview.
Drivers whose companies authorize them to access the DriverDash app begin a transaction by opening the app, which automatically identifies the station. The driver selects a pump and activates fueling by scanning their fingerprint.
DriverDash also enables participating fleets to earn and track loyalty points with Shell’s Fuel Rewards Pro program, according to the release.
“WEX has great relationships with the nation’s largest fleets, and offering payment options such as DriverDash increases payment options for our customers and helps drive brand loyalty for Shell,” said Rusty Barron, vice president and general manager of Shell Fleet Solutions, in the release.
WEX acquired Shell’s commercial card portfolio last year, the release noted.
