Wirecard, Enio enable contactless payments at European charging stations
Wirecard and Enio, an Austria-based supplier of electric car charging stations throughout Europe, are collaborating to enable contactless payments at thousands of sites.
The deal builds on a partnership Wirecard and Enio established two years ago empowering consumers to locate the nearest charging station and pay through an app Wirecard developed for the service, according to a Wednesday press release.
Wirecard’s latest innovation enables consumers to pay directly with credit and debit cards by tapping the car-charging device, Wirecard said in the release. Enio operates 8,000 electric car charging sites throughout Europe and plans to add up to 4 million by 2030, according to the release.
“In order to ensure that everybody has access to e-mobility, our aim was to create an innovative infrastructure, which in addition to numerous other aspects, includes advanced payment options,” said Fritz Vogel, CEO and partner at Enio, in the release.
Wirecard expressed optimism about the next phase of the partnership with Enio.
“Together we can significantly increase the use of e-mobility solutions across the whole of Europe and further drive the digitization of payment processes in the mobility sector,” added Roland Toch, Wirecard’s managing director, in the release.
