Wirecard, based in Munich, Germany, is supporting mobile ticketing services from sunhill technologies GmbH, which allows motorists to pay for parking from a smartphone.
Users can register their payment details and park their vehicles using the sms&park (on-street parking) and sms&exit 2.0 DF (off-street parking) applications. The sunhill technologies apps are currently available in several towns and cities in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
The apps allow users to make a parking reservation by registering their license plate number and then choosing a parking space. The apps also let an individual extend parking time.
Users can pay either through the Wirecard application using a credit card or by SEPA direct debit.
The link to Wirecard adds flexibility in making cashless payments, which were previously charged to the user's mobile phone bill.
"Current developments in consumer behavior are tending towards the cashless society, and this has made it very evident how important a good mobile customer experience is," says Jan Rubel, head of sales travel at Wirecard, in a March 6 press release.
