WorldPay, which provides electronic payment processing, has contracted to bring the NFC and EMV capabilities of VeriFone's countertop payment products to merchants.

WorldPay will offer VeriFone's Payware Mobile card reader for small merchants to accept payments on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. It will also offer the VX 520, which supports end to end encryption and tokenization for security. WorldPay is in the process of certifying other VeriFone products that allow payments via PIN pads and wireless acceptance that will enable NFC wallet payments.

Card networks expect most merchants to accept EMV-card payments by October, 2015. EMV-chip cards, which are common in other countries, add security over magnetic-stripe payments. Other terminal providers, such as Ingenico, are also expanding their ability to deliver EMV-compliant payments to the point of sale.

"VeriFone and WorldPay collaborate in crucial areas to deliver the right payment solutions to merchants, including core countertop card acceptance systems, end-to-end encryption of payment data, and the latest in mobile payment options," said Jennifer Miles, president of VeriFone Americas, in a release.

WorldPay also recently partnered with Discover to help merchants accept PayPal. VeriFone, which is undergoing executive churn, recently expanded its service in China
