The Western States Acquirers Association and the Electronic Transactions Association are offering scholarships that could pay for 10 qualified candidates to take the ETA’s Certified Payments Professional test.

The scholarships also cover the cost of the study guide for the exam, the WSAA said in a news release.

The ETA, which writes and administers the tests, charges $450 for nonmembers to take the exam and $350 for members, according to the association’s website.

Test-takers who pass the exam earn the Certified Payments Professional credtional, which demonstrates that the candidate has mastered the knowledge and skills to perform in the acquiring industry, the release said.

Merchant service providers should have a broad knowledge of the industry and should master not only of sales but also pricing and interchange, business process, operations and workflow, products, and regulatory, compliance and security matters, the association said in the release.

The scholarship is intended for first-time applicants, and they should complete the exam within two years of receiving the award, the release said.

To qualify for the scholarship, candidates are required to work full-time in the industry and register for the 10th Annual WSAA Conference.

Applicants may apply for the scholarship themselves, and members of the industry may also nominate candidates.

Applicants should demonstrate their commitment to the payments industry via articles, blogs, webinars or participation in conferences, the release suggested.

ETA will administer the exam during November, and the application deadline for the November testing window is Aug. 15.
