Zain Group, a telco based in Kuwait, has launched a mobile money service in Iraq with eServGlobal, a provider of mobile money and value-added service solutions for telco providers.
The service, called Zain Cash, soft-launched in January. Through Zain's partnership with Iraq Wallet, users can link their SIM cards to mobile wallets to perform functions such as loads and withdrawals, transfers between wallets and bill payment. Iraq Wallet is authorized by the Iraq central bank.
"We are embracing the opportunity to launch new services that improve the livelihoods of the communities we serve," Scott Gegenheimer, CEO of Zain Group, said in a Feb. 23 news release.
Zain Group's coverage extends to more than 45.6 million consumers across Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan and Sudan. In some of its markets, more than 90% of the population lacks access to bank services.
eServGlobal provides end-to-end mobile money and electronic voucher distribution solutions across Zain's operations.
